Choosing a HACCP app in Ireland: 10 things to check

There are plenty of food safety apps. Here is what matters for an Irish kitchen, so you can compare them properly. We make Hygivo, so we’ve said where it fits, but the checklist works for any app.

The 10 things to check

  1. Built around Irish rules. FSAI guidance temperatures, the Safe Catering pack records, the 14 allergens. Apps made for the UK or US often use different forms and wording.
  2. Works offline. Walk-in fridges and basements lose signal. Checks should save and sync later.
  3. Every staff member included. Per-user pricing pushes owners to share logins, which breaks the record of who did what.
  4. Quick on a phone. A fridge round should take seconds, not a login and five screens.
  5. Real readings, not ticks. The app should ask for the number and flag anything out of range.
  6. Corrective actions. When a check fails, staff should record what they did.
  7. A report for the EHO. One clear report for any period, as PDF or Excel, ready for an inspection.
  8. Deliveries and batch codes. Finding a batch fast matters if there’s a recall.
  9. Clear pricing and easy cancelling. Know the monthly cost per site, and that you keep your records if you leave.
  10. Your data in the EU. Ask where records are stored and who can see them.

Try before you commit

Whatever you choose, run it for a couple of weeks with your own team before you drop paper. Watch whether checks actually get done.

This is general information, not advice for your business. Your food safety management system (HACCP plan) and FSAI guidance are the reference. Hygivo is not affiliated with or endorsed by the FSAI.

Questions

What is the best HACCP app in Ireland?

The best one is the one your team will actually use every shift. Check that it follows FSAI guidance and the Safe Catering pack, works on staff phones (offline too), gives every staff member access without extra cost, and produces a clear report for an EHO inspection. Hygivo was built in Ireland for exactly this.

Do I need an app, or is paper fine?

Paper is legally fine if it is complete, legible and kept. An app helps when records go missing, staff forget checks, or you have more than one site. See our paper vs app comparison.

How much does a HACCP app cost in Ireland?

Prices vary a lot. Some charge per user, others per site. Hygivo is €40 a month for the first location, plus VAT where applicable, with every staff member included and each extra location costing less.
