Safe Catering Pack
Your Safe Catering Pack records, on your phone
The FSAI’s Safe Catering Pack is the food safety management system many Irish caterers use. Hygivo keeps its daily records on your team’s phones, named, timed and easy to find, instead of in a folder on the shelf.
What the Safe Catering Pack is
The FSAI Safe Catering pack is a practical food safety management system, based on the principles of HACCP, designed by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland for caterers and usable by other food businesses. It explains the safe way to do each step, from delivery to service, and comes with nine recording forms, SC1 to SC9, that show the checks are being done.
The forms are where paper gets hard: they are filled in by many people, across every shift, every day, and they have to be found again when an inspector, a customer or a supplier asks.
| Form | FSAI record | In Hygivo | What is recorded |
|---|---|---|---|
| SC1 | Food delivery | Home › Food Delivery | Label photo, batch code and use-by read on the phone and checked by the person, supplier, temperature, packaging, accepted or rejected with the reason. |
| SC2 | Refrigeration | Home › Fridge and Freezer Temperatures | Each reading at the times you set, out-of-range readings with what was done, and “couldn’t take a reading” with the reason. Missed checks become issues. |
| SC3 | Cooking, cooling, reheating | Home › Cooking and Hot Food | Each step for each batch, with the temperature and time. Cooling follows the FSAI timings; reheating is once only. |
| SC4 | Hot hold / display | Home › Cooking and Hot Food | Food into hot holding, checks with phone reminders, 63 °C or above, and what was done if not. |
| SC5 | Hygiene inspection checklist | Account › Checks and training › Hygiene inspection | A signed checklist: OK, issue or not applicable for each area. Each issue stays open until it is sorted. |
| SC6 | Hygiene training | Account › Checks and training › Training | Topics or courses for each person, who recorded them, and the person’s own confirmation. |
| SC7 | Fitness to work assessment | Account › Checks and training › Fit for work | Each person acknowledges they will report illness before work. No health details are kept in Hygivo: keep any assessment on the paper SC7 form. |
| SC8 | All-in-one daily record | Today, Weekly review and Records › Show inspection record | Each day’s checks and issues in one view, and a weekly review where the manager opens every exception before signing off. |
| SC9 | Transport and delivery (to customers) | Cooking and Hot Food › a food › Send it out | Where the food went, the temperature at hand-over, and clean, separate transport. |
What changes from paper
- Each person signs their own records. Everyone has their own login, so every check has a name and a time, not just initials.
- Numbers, not ticks. A fridge reading is a number. An out-of-range reading asks what was done before it can be saved.
- Nothing is overwritten. A manager can correct a record with a reason, and the original stays visible beside it.
- Missed checks show up. A check that wasn’t done is recorded as not done, with the reason, never left blank.
- Works without signal. Checks are kept on the phone and sent when the connection returns.
- Found in seconds. Search by batch code, product, supplier, equipment, date or person.
What an inspector sees
Records › Show inspection record gives a read-only view by day or by type: temperatures, deliveries, food, cleaning, checks, issues and allergens. Owners and managers can download the same records as a PDF to print or an Excel spreadsheet. More about Records.
What Hygivo doesn’t do
Hygivo doesn’t write or approve your HACCP plan, replace your completed Safe Catering Pack or its declaration, or decide whether food is safe: the people in the kitchen do. It starts you with the FSAI guidance figures, which you change to match your own plan.
Still on paper? Our free HACCP templates follow the same records, and moving from paper to an app explains how to switch without losing anything.
This is general information, not advice for your business. Your food safety management system (HACCP plan) and FSAI guidance are the reference. Hygivo is not affiliated with or endorsed by the FSAI.
Questions
Is Hygivo approved by the FSAI?
No. Hygivo is not affiliated with or endorsed by the FSAI. It helps you keep the records the Safe Catering Pack describes, for the steps your kitchen does.
Do I still need the Safe Catering Pack itself?
Yes. The pack, completed for your business, is your food safety management system. Hygivo holds the day-to-day records, not the plan or its declaration.
Can inspectors accept records kept in an app?
Records are there to show your procedures are being followed. They can be kept on paper or electronically, as long as they are complete and can be shown. Hygivo has a read-only inspection view and PDF and Excel reports for any period.
What if part of my pack isn’t in Hygivo?
Keep that part on paper. The table above says exactly what is in the app. Many kitchens run Hygivo for the daily records and keep the plan and any one-off forms in the pack’s folder.
