HACCP apps in Ireland compared

Most Irish kitchens choosing a HACCP app end up comparing the same handful of names. Here they are side by side, using what each company publishes on its own website.

We make Hygivo, so we’re not neutral. To keep this fair, every fact about another app comes from that company’s own website, checked on 4 November 2026, with a link so you can check it yourself. Prices change, so confirm before you buy. If something here is out of date, tell us and we’ll correct it.

The apps in a few lines each

Hygivo

Made in Dublin for Irish cafés, restaurants, pubs, takeaways, caterers, care settings and school canteens. Staff record fridge and freezer temperatures, deliveries (photograph the label and Hygivo reads the batch code and date for staff to check), cooking, cooling, reheating, hot holding, cleaning and allergens, offline too. Every correction keeps the original value, who changed it and why. Owners download a HACCP report for any period as PDF or Excel. Priced per location with every staff member included. Hygivo pricing.

SmartChef

An Irish app built around the FSAI Safe Catering Pack, with photo label scanning, reminders, online staff HACCP training, Bluetooth probe support and optional Wi-Fi temperature sensors. Two plans with the same features, priced by kitchen size.

SafePlate

A Dublin-built app with 28 pre-built HACCP controls, AI-assisted guidance on breaches, staff training tracking and EHO-ready PDF reports. It has iPhone and Android apps and a web dashboard, and a free plan for one venue. Plans are limited by staff numbers, venues and monthly AI credits.

FoodGuard

An Irish and UK app with scheduled checks, breach alerts with corrective actions, a full audit trail, offline use and templates for bakeries, delis, butchers and food retail. Priced per site with unlimited users.

ProChef

A Galway-based app that combines HACCP records, label scanning and temperature monitoring with kitchen management tools such as ordering, recipes, stock-taking and gross profit.

KitchTech

Irish food safety and HACCP software with digital checklists and temperature logs, and optional wireless temperature sensors with alerts. An associate member of the Irish Hotels Federation.

FoodDocs

An international food safety platform that builds a HACCP plan for you and covers monitoring and traceability. It suits larger or multi-site operators who want an all-in-one platform and are comfortable with a higher price and a setup fee.

How to choose

  • Count your staff. If plans are capped by staff numbers, a team with part-timers can outgrow a cheap plan quickly. Per-location pricing with all staff included is easier to predict.
  • Check it works offline. Cold rooms, basements and rural sites often have no signal.
  • Try it with your own checks. Set up your real fridges and deliveries during a trial and get two or three staff to use it for a week.
  • Ask to see the report. When an EHO calls, you need to show a period’s records quickly and clearly.
  • Check what happens to your records if you leave. You should be able to export them, and you must keep them for as long as your HACCP plan says.
  • Sensors are optional. Wi-Fi fridge sensors are useful but cost extra. A probe and a phone are enough for the checks in the Safe Catering Pack.

Questions

What is the best HACCP app in Ireland?

There isn’t one best app for everyone. The best one is the one your team will use every shift. Check that it follows FSAI guidance and the Safe Catering Pack, works on staff phones (offline too), lets every staff member record checks without extra cost, and gives you a clear report for an EHO inspection. Irish-made options include Hygivo, SmartChef, SafePlate, FoodGuard, ProChef and KitchTech.

How much does a HACCP app cost in Ireland?

Published prices for Irish kitchens range from a free plan (SafePlate, one venue and up to 5 staff) to about €19.99–€40 a month per site for most small-kitchen apps, plus VAT. International platforms such as FoodDocs cost more, from $99 a month per site plus a setup fee. Some companies, such as KitchTech and ProChef, give prices on request.

Is there a free HACCP app in Ireland?

SafePlate has a free plan for one venue and up to 5 staff. Most other apps offer a free trial or demo instead: Hygivo gives 30 days free with a trial code, FoodDocs and ProChef offer 14-day trials, and SmartChef has a 30-day money-back guarantee. Free printable HACCP templates are another option if you want to stay on paper.

Do I need an app to pass an EHO inspection?

No. Paper records are fine if they are complete, accurate and up to date. An app makes gaps and corrective actions harder to miss and records quicker to find, but the inspector is checking the records, not the format.

Which HACCP apps work offline?

From what each company publishes: Hygivo, SafePlate and FoodGuard say checks save on the phone without signal and sync later. Ask any other provider directly, because a kitchen with a cold room or basement store needs this.
